Individually signed postcards

2000

The artists set aside their trademark monumental gestures in favour of something quietly subversive. They transformed the taxi’s interior into a kind of pocket-sized retrospective, placing a variety of individually signed postcards depicting their most celebrated projects, wrapping landmarks, spanning rivers, and altering landscapes around the passenger space. These works, usually experienced at epic scale and from a distance, were here reduced to intimate, hand-held images encountered in the casual, in-between moments of a cab ride. The effect was both disarming and generous: a personal encounter with two of the world’s most ambitious artists, hidden in plain sight, where the art revealed itself only to those who cared to look.
