ARTNOTES: Openings and closings

Going for a final spin in January is London's Cab Gallery. An initiative of Paul Stolper and London cabbie and collector Jason Brown, the gallery has been taking fares all over London (Brown never says 'I don't go South of the river') since it was founded in September 1999. The gallery has housed site-specific artworks by over 30 established and emerging international artists from Alex Katz, Christo & Jeanne-Claude and Lawrence Weiner to Fiona Banner, Bob & Roberta Smith, Jemima Stehli and Peter Liversidge, with all work having to be submitted for approval by the Hackney Carriage Of fice (only Stehli fell foul of the Office who refused permission for her photographs to be installed on the Taxi's bucket seats). To mark the gallery's final fare the Essor Gallery will be showing the gallery parked in its Project Space at 57 Ewer Street, London SE1, January 16-22. Alongside the taxi will be all the work that Brown exhibited inside it and on its bodywork. For more information on the project go to www.cabgallery.com.
